This is one of the most important conversations you can have with a concrete contractor. No honest contractor promises concrete will never crack.
Concrete cracks for many reasons: drying shrinkage as it cures, temperature movement, soil settlement, tree roots, loading beyond design, and freeze-thaw exposure. It's a rigid material sitting on ground that moves.
That doesn't mean workmanship is irrelevant - it means the opposite. What separates a slab that performs from one that doesn't:
- Subgrade preparation. Properly compacted, uniform base. Most premature failures start here.
- Appropriate mix design for the application and the season.
- Reinforcement where it belongs, such as rebar or mesh, sized and placed correctly.
- Control joints cut at the right depth and spacing, so cracking happens where we put it rather than where it wants to go.
- Placement and finishing technique, including not overworking the surface or adding water to make finishing easier.
- Curing, which is protection over time, not a single step at the end.
- Drainage and slope designed for where the water actually needs to go.
Our goal isn't a promise nobody can keep. It's to build the best project possible, take every reasonable step to reduce the likelihood and severity of cracking, and then tell you honestly what to expect.

We won't tell you your concrete will never crack - nobody can honestly promise that.
What we will do: prep the subgrade right, use the correct mix for the season, place control joints where they belong, and cure it properly. Then tell you exactly what to expect.
